Samsung announced Wednesday that it has begun the mass production of the world's first 1-terabyte integrated flash storage unit eUFS 2.1 for use in the next generation of smartphones.
"Just four years after the introduction of the first UFS solution, the 128-gigabyte eUFS, Samsung has surpassed the long-awaited Terabyte storage threshold for smartphones," said Samsung's consumer electronics and semiconductor giant.
"Smartphone enthusiasts will soon be able to enjoy the storage capacity that can be compared to an excellent laptop, without having to pair their phones with additional memory cards," said Samsung.
"EUFS 1TB is expected to play a crucial role in bringing a more user-friendly user experience to the next generation of mobile devices," said Chul Choi, executive vice president of sales and marketing of memory at Samsung Electronics. "Moreover, Samsung is committed to ensuring the most reliable supply chain and production volumes to support the timely launch of smartphones in accelerating the growth of the global mobile market."
According to Samsung, the new 1U terabyte eUFS will allow users to store 260 videos of 4K UHD of 10 minutes, compared to the 64GB eUFS volume used in many existing smartphones that only accommodate 13 videos of the same duration and accuracy.
The 1U terabyte eUFS is exceptionally fast, allowing users to transfer large amounts of multimedia content in a very short time. The data transfer speed provided by the new 1 Gbps storage is twice that of SATA For personal computers.
Samsung said that this speed allows the transfer of high-resolution film HD 5 GB to the NVMe SSD disk about 5 seconds, which is ten times faster than the transfer speed to external memory cards microSD.
